2009-10 Competitions and Accomplishments

Practice is held on Tuesday after school from 3:30-5:00 in Room B-9.  If you like to watch Jeopardy and Academic Challenge...Academic Team may just be for you!

Our 2009-10 season will officially start on October 3, 2009 when we host the Fall Kickoff Tournament at Olmsted Falls High School.

October 10:  The Academic Team will travel to Copley to participate in the Cory Salem AC Tourney at Copley High School.


The A and B teams competed at the Cory Salem Memorial Tournament on October 10, 2009.  The A team finished second in their bracket with a record of 6-1.  The B team finished third in their bracket with a record of 4-3.  Outstanding effort by all team members!


October 17:  The Academic Team will travel to Columbus to participate in the Ohio State Novice Tournament.



A team won the overall Championship with a record of 10-1.

B team won their bracket with a record of 7-2.

October 24: Fisher Catholic High School in Columbus.

Both A (4-0) and B (2-2)  teams made the playoffs.  They met in the semi-finals with A team besting B team to go on to eventually take second place in the tournament.


October 31:  The Academic Team will travel to Columbus to participate in the Brain Game which will be broadcast on ONN.

Our Bulldog Quiz Team had an excellent showing at our taping of the Brain Game.  In a match that was billed as a "Clash of the Titans" due to our second place finish and St. Charles' third place finishes last year.  Where we are not to reveal the exact happenings of this match until it actually airs on TV (sometime in January), let's just say we turned in a performance that Olmsted Falls will be proud of!  When we receive the official airing date, it will be posted here.

November 10:  The Academic Team will host the first four rounds of the NEOAL.

On November 10, the A team posted a record of 4-0, B-team posted a record of 3-1, and C team posted a record of 2-2 (one loss being to B team).  We will conclude the fall NEOAL play on December 8th at Garfield Heights High School.


November 21: The Academic Team will travel to BGSU to participate in the Brave Falcon Tournament.   

Results: The A Team was the only team competing at BGSU.  We finished 6-2 on the day in a tie for second in our bracket (we lost the tie-braker which was the head-head match).  We ended up 5th overall in the tournament.


December 1:  The Academic Team competed in the Knowledge Master Open.  The Bulldogs ended up finishing 2nd out of Ohio Teams and 35th out of the teams entered from across the country!  See the results here http://greatauk.com/kmoh.pdf  Scroll down to Ohio.

December 5:  The Academic Team traveled to Wright State University for the Rowdy Raider Tournament.  The A Team finished in a tie for 5th and a berth in the HSNCT!  The B and C teams also competed with finishes of 21st and 23rd overall. 

December 8:  The Academic Team completed the fall NEOAL league schedule with a record of 7-0 and capturing the Winter Championship!

December 12: The Academic Team tried their hand at the CWRU TRASH Tournament.  Forty-eight teams descended on CWRU for this tournament.  The A Team came away with the Tournament Championship with the B Team just missing the playoffs.  See the picture gallery to see the team with their championship belt!

January:  SWC action begins on January 19  and continues for the next 7 Tuesday's @ 4:00.

January 9:  The Academic Team will travel to OSU for the Winter Tournament.

The A team finish a strong 3rd in a tough field at OSU.


January 10:  OSU hosts tryouts for All-Ohio Team to represent Ohio in a National Tournament at Vanderbilt University in June.  Jim Coury is chosen as one of six students on the All-Ohio Team. Congratulations, Jim! 

January 30:  The Academic Team will travel to the Cloverleaf Invitational Tournament.

Results:  A-Team placed 3rd in the bracket of teams that have already qualified for OAC Regionals.  JV's won their bracket and brought home a trophy!


February 6:  The Academic Team travels to Westlake High School for the SWC Tournament.

Results:  Olmsted Falls went 7-0 for the day becoming the SWC Tournament Champions!

February 13 & 14: The Academic Team will travel to the Solon Invitational Tournament.

Results:  NAQT Qualifier on Saturday--A-Team won the overall championship, B & C Teams posted 5-5 records on the day.

Results:  PACE Qualifier on Sunday--A-Team won the overall championship.


February 17:  The NEOAL Spring Tournament will be held at BWC.  Per league rules, since we won the Winter Tournament, we were required to sit our top two scorers.  We sat our entire A-Team.

Results:  B-Team posted a 7-0 record for the day winning the Spring Tournament.  Jim Coury won the "Top Gun" Tournament.

February 20: The Academic Team will travel to South Range High School for their Invitational Tournament.

Results:  A-Team won their bracket and was runner-up in the playoff against Solon.  B-Team won their bracket.  JV's ended up 8-1 on the day being runner-up in their bracket.

February 27:  The Academic Team will travel to Copley High School for their Invitational Tournament. POSTPONED to March 20 due to weather!


March 6:  The Academic Team will travel to CWRU for the Jared W. Gilts Memorial Tournament.

The A-Team finished in second place to a tough DCC team.


March 27:  The Academic Team traveled to CWRU for the GLRAC.

The A-Team finished in second place to DCD (Detroit Country Day).  There were teams from Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio participating in this tournament.


NAQT State Tournament:  The Academic Team will participate at the NAQT State Tournament at The Ohio State University on April 17.

The Olmsted Falls Academic Team placed 2nd in the State in the annual NAQT Tournament held at OSU!  Junior, Jim Coury, was the top individual scorer at the State NAQT Tournament for the second year in a row.  Congratulations, Jim!


OAC Regionals:  The Academic Team has qualified 9 times for the OAC Regional Tournament.  Our Northeast Regional Tournament takes place at Copley High School on April 24.  The Olmsted Falls Acadeic Team placed 4th in our region at the NorthEast Regionals.


HSNCT Nationals: The Academic Team qualified to participate in the High School National Championship Tournament May 28-31 in Chicago!


This is the first time in school history that the Academic Team has qualified and competed at a National Tournament!



A-Team finished in a tie for 27th in the Nation!

B-Team finished in 124th place in the Nation!


Jim Coury made the National All-Star Team by being the #12 overall individual scorer!


It has been a phenominal year!
